It’s been a minute. One my favorite sayings, it points directly to the elastic nature of time. In reality, it’s been over a month since I’ve written anything here. To me, it feels like ten. To you, it maybe felt like, what, a couple years? I know you await my word like a faithful hound.

During a whirlwind weekend--which you can read about here--I bought a stylish straw hat. I know what you’re thinking: writing “stylish” is completely unnecessary. What can I say? Specificity never hurt anyone but those who don’t know what they want.

I’ve come around to wearing hats, now that I’ve figured out what styles work for my face shape: flat caps and fedoras. Obviously, my career has been circling around becoming a number runner and/or newsie for some time. This is the next step.

As I get older, so do my sartorial proclivities. I already enjoy wearing vests and am on active lookout for a pocket watch. By the time I’m fifty, I’ll be wearing tunics and philosophizing in public. Thinking about what I’ll sport when/if I hit 90 worries me, but then again most of you will be dead (probably. It’s nothing personal) and if I can’t run around with only my accumulated filth and hoarsely-voiced epithets to protect my decency then, well, when can you?

So, what have you missed? Honk Fest for one. That shit was off the hook, as the kids inexplicably say. I’ve never expressed waste so compact it would hang on a nail longer than 20 minutes tops. Honk Fest went three days, had over 200 performers and a fantastic reception. That’s a lot of hammering.

The End Times are back in the studio, hard at work on an album. It’s coming along nicely, with a fuller sound than ever before attempted. There are drums on this thing, and a cello. We’ve never been closer to living up to our name.

Desperado—which we have apparently adopted as the name of our previously untitled Linda Ronstadt tribute band—has a gig at the Wildrose next month as part of a benefit for For My Wife. Unless I’m greatly mistaken, it’s the same night Pillow Army headlines Neumo’s. Will this night be awesome? Do I have brown nails in my walls?

I bought some flowers yesterday and repotted them. They’re on my windowsill now. I hope they flourish. No worse omen than something in your care dying, unless it's something in your bed.
